A dice game par excellence. In this casino game, players gamble on the roll of the dice. The game uses a pair of hexagonal dice. The ‘shooter’ is the player who rolls the dice. Each player at the table gets one chance to roll the dice.
The dice are passed clockwise after each new round. When a new round begins, the shooter chooses two dice to roll.
The shooter must make a new line bet (on the pass line or don’t pass line). Other players at the table also bet. Then the shooter will start the round by rolling the dice against the overlying table wall. The first roll of the shooter is known as the ‘come-out roll’.
The Come-Out Roll
If the come-out roll is a 7 or 11, the ‘pass line’ bet wins and the ‘don’t pass’ bets lose. This ends the round immediately.
If the come-out roll is a 2, 3 or 12 a 7, the pass line loses and the don’t pass line wins or draws (drawn if the come-out roll is 12).
If the come-out roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, then that specific number becomes the player’s point. The dealers at the table will then put a puck on that specific number. What’s the puck, that’s a disc that the dealer can place on the table.
Then the shooter will roll the dice until he or she rolls the number of puck from the point or if he or she rolls the losing roll by rolling a 7. If the point is rolled, players who bet on the pass line win and players who bet on the don’t pass line lose. If a 7 is thrown before the point, the pass line bets lose and the don’t pass bets win.
Types of bets
Pass line bets are the easiest bets you can make. When you bet on the pass line, you bet that a 7 or 11 will be thrown on the come-out roll. If the shooter throws a 7 or 11 on the come-out roll, you double your money. However, if the shooter rolls 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, a point is established.
In addition, if you want to bet on the pass line, you want the point to be rolled again (before the shooter rolls a 7). If the shooter rolls the point before he rolls a 7, your pass line bet is doubled.
If the shooter rolls 2, 3 or 12 (or craps) on the come-out roll, you lose your pass line bet. If a point is captured and 7 is thrown for the point value, the pass line bet also loses. In addition to the pass line bets there are also don’t pass line bets, more about this now.
Don’t Pass Line
Don’t pass bets are the opposite of pass line bets. When you make a don’t pass bet, you are actually betting against the shooter. You want the shooter to make a losing roll (craps) (2, 3 or 12 throws) on the come-out roll. If a point is captured on the come-out roll, your goal as don’t pass bet is that the shooter throws 7 before he rolls the captured number of eyes (point).
A come bet is actually the same as a pass line bet. You can make a come bet on any roll of the dice. Come bets are made after the point is established. If a shooter rolls a 7 or 11 after a come bet is made, the come bet wins. If a shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12 after a come bet is made, the come bet loses.
If the shooter rolls a different number of come bets, all the come bets will move to a smaller numbered box on the table. If that number of eyes is rolled before the shooter rolls 7, the come bet wins. If the 7 is rolled before the shooter rolls 7, the come bet loses. Don’t come bets are the exact opposite of come bets.
Don’t come bets
Don’t come bets win if the shooter throws a 2 or 3 after a point is captured (a 12 is a tie). If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is thrown, a 7 must be thrown first and then the number of eyes must be repeated before the don’t come bet wins.
All this may seem a bit complicated, but as soon as you start playing you’ll soon see how it all works. Player by player, you’ll get the hang of the game. As a tip, try the “Free Play” version that many online casinos have available. After all, you can practice well here without making any real bets. It also allows you to become familiar with the rules and betting procedures of the game.
Suckerbets or too stupid bets
The bets that we have briefly discussed above are not all possible bets that can be made in this table game. The other bets are known as sucker bets and should be avoided at all times. These are bets at “craps” 7 or the “hornbet” on the numbers 2, 3, 11 or 12. The house edge is a lot higher on these bets. So don’t bet on that.
